How the 2016 #Oscars unfolded on Twitter

Tonight, Hollywood gathered for the 88th Academy Awards (@TheAcademy) to commemorate the past year of filmmaking. And as the glitz and glamour took place in Los Angeles, the rest of the world was able to celebrate alongside them, as it happened, on Twitter.

With host Chris Rock (@chrisrock) at the helm, the show was filled with moments that sparked reactions on Twitter. Leonardo DiCaprio’s (@LeoDiCaprio) win for Best Actor generated more than 440,000 Tweets per minute, the most-Tweeted minute of an Oscars telecast ever, beating out the previous record of 255,000 Tweets per minute, set when @TheEllenShow Tweeted this star studded selfie.
