Here's what's happening for #Ramadan on Twitter

On Twitter, live conversations during the holy month of #Ramadan come to life for Muslims across the world. It’s the time of year when people connect with one another regardless of location or language, over mutually shared values and interests; from information on fasting, to learning how to lend a hand to those in need.

This year, we’re rolling out various initiatives to help create a more fulfilling Ramadan experience for everyone on Twitter.

Several Ramadan themed emojis are available on Twitter throughout the holy month to make the #Ramadan conversations more fun. Include any of the following hashtags in your Tweets and you’ll see a crescent moon appear next to these terms.

The second emoji embodies the spirit of iftar as it illustrates a date along with a glass bottle of yoghurt, which are commonly used to break fast. Include any of the following hashtags in your Tweets and you’ll see the emoji appear next to these terms. The last emoji is a visual of a lantern that embodies the cultural spirit of the holy month.

Simply include any of the following hashtags to the title of your broadcast, and when your viewers tap the screen, the hearts will transform into crescent moons.

In the Middle East, we’re launching the first Ramadan TV guide bot on Twitter. Ramadan TV viewers can send a Direct Message to the Arabic entertainment news portal @FilFan that will automatically display a variety of categories to choose from; ‘Channels’, ‘Series’, ‘TV shows’ and ‘Now showing’. Once selected, viewers will automatically receive a message that will include a list of series, TV channels, timings as well as a daily recap of their favorite series based on their selection.

In addition, exclusive Ramadan Q&As will take place with celebrities and experts across the region giving fans an opportunity to engage in a live video conversation around popular topics. From entertainment and culture to religion and health, it’s all happening on Twitter.

The first ever Ramadan-themed live 360 videos will take place on Twitter by multiple broadcasters; showcasing the spirit of Ramadan through an immersive experience; from tents to souqs and charitable activities. You can easily move your device or scroll your finger across the video Tweets to explore every angle shared of the locations.

As for TV, look out for a Ramadan mini-series, live episodes and behind the scenes content that will be shared on Twitter.

In Indonesia, we’re partnering with several partners to enliven the Ramadan experience and making it easier for Indonesians to find Ramadan-related information on Twitter.

1. @MasakTV will provide daily video recipes during Ramadan. By Tweeting #masakapa (what to eat) to @MasakTV, you will receive Ramadan related recipe videos. By Tweeting #jajandimana (eat out) along with the name of a cuisine or dish to @MasakTV, you will receive an auto-reply with recommendation of the nearest restaurants serving that.

2. We’re partnering with leading radio stations in the country, @Jak101fm and @gen987fm, to host regular Periscope and Q&A sessions - all to be broadcasted via their Twitter accounts.  The radio stations will also have regular challenge sessions where their listeners needs to answer by sending photos and video via Twitter.

3. @netmediatama TV will be integrating Twitter within its Sohoor programming for one of the most popular variety shows Ini Sahur (@Ini_Talkshow) to allow live audience to engage with the celebrity guests and hosts in real-time. People can also send a Direct Message to @netmediatama to get daily prayer time, iftar time, and video of short sermon in their DMs.

4. @TravellerKaskus, part of @Kaskus - one of Indonesia’s largest online communities, will be broadcasting regular content on Periscope and video on Twitter while waiting for Iftar. The topics will vary each week and will be related to Ramadan: from tips on what to do during iftar, unique iftar food from different cities in Indonesia, to preparation of mudik or homecoming season.

We wish Muslims all around the world another blessed #Ramadan in 2017.
